According to officials, Wisconsin spring sports seniors will not be back next year. It is a time of uncertainties in college athletics. The school will not seek waivers for its seniors participating in spring sports.
Last March, the NCAA Division I Council approved the eligibility extension for athletes belonging to spring sports. Also, the organization relaxed limits to scholarships that will allow seniors to return next year.
The NCAA left it to each school to decide the level of financial aid for the seniors. However, the NCAA told pay per head sources that the flexible financial assistance is only applicable to athletics who already used up their eligibility this year.

UW officials told the best sportsbooks that most senior student-athletes would earn their degrees before the next spring. The school will do everything to ensure they will receive their degrees.
The athletic department will not extend the eligibility of the senior athletes. Officials said that they are Badgers for life. As a result, they can receive full support from the school even after their graduation.
The waivers are for athletes who are competing in spring sports, including softball, golf, lacrosse, men’s volleyball, women’s water polo, beach volleyball, rowing, outdoor track and field, baseball, and tennis.
However, the NCAA didn’t include winter sports athletes in its waiver extension. As a result, athletes from hockey, diving, swimming, gymnastics, and basketball are not eligible for waivers next year.
Wisconsin considered several factors in not extending the seniors’ eligibility. For one, a new group of student-athletes is coming. It will affect the roster size of the teams. Also, the school will suffer from financial problems over the long run.
