Trump Border Wall May be a Reality
On January 25th Donald Trump signed an executive order. It was called the “Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements.” The Department of Homeland Security has thus been directed to start building a 2,000-mile wall on the border between the United States and Mexico. The first prop asks what the proposed height of the border wall will be. The over/under set at 37.5 feet. The second asks when construction will begin: before or after Independence Day, 2017. You can also bet on whether there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony. At press time, NO is the favorite at –140.
The executive orders that Trump signed were written mostly by advisers Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller, and contTrumpain fuzzy language that makes the orders difficult to parse – or even carry out. Trump said during his presidential campaign that the border wall would be 35-45 feet tall, and that Mexico would pay for it. Mexico has already declined, which means Trump will have to come up with $15-25 billion in public funds. House Speaker Paul Ryan says Congress will have an appropriations bill ready this spring.
