Cubs Can Clinch NL Central Winning Two Against St. Louis
The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals are set to open a four game series on Monday when they meet at New Busch Stadium. The Cubs are on the verge of taking the first step toward defending their World Series championship, winning a division title. Oddsmakers opened the Cardinals as -123-moneyline favorites versus the Cubs, while the game’s total opened at 8.5. The line now shows St. Louis as a -143-moneyline favorite. The total has dropped to 8. The Cubs magic number is two. This is surprising considering this: The Cubs were 43-45 and 5 1/2 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers at the All-Star break. They have been red-hot adn are 44-23 since the break. They have been in sole possession of first place since beating the Arizona Diamondbacks on Aug. 13.
