Astros May Have Favorable Game 3 Matchup in World Series
By Charles Jay
When considering our World Series betting selection for Game 3, we have to take into consideration the matchup, even though, as you know, we’ve been pretty hot on the Braves to win the Series overall.
So BetAnySports customers might be getting an analysis that they perhaps did not expect.
Now the scene shifts to Truist Park outside Atlanta, and the first pitch is scheduled for 8:09 p.m. Eastern time on Fox.
The Braves overcame the loss of pitcher Charlie Morton to win Game 1, but their bullpen had to go 6- 2/3 innings. So that probably reduced options for them. Max Fried, the southpaw, did not do as well as expected in Game 2, and after Houston scored a first-inning run and Atlanta evened the score in the top of the second, Fried allowed four runs and the Astros never looked back.
For Game 3, the starters are both technically rookies. And they are both righties. Atlanta’s Ian Anderson was 9 – 5 with a 3.5 ERA during the regular season, while Houston’s Luis Garcia was 11 – 8 with a 3.30 earned run average.
In World Series betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Atlanta is a slight favorite at home:

Houston Astros (Garcia) + 102

World Series Betting — Can Altuve light it up again?
Jose Altuve, one of the most complete players in the major leagues, had a homer and double in Game 2. He has now hit 22 round-trippers in the postseason, tying for second all time, although admittedly that statistic is kind of watered down due to the fact that many more postseason games are being played these days.
Still, he can’t be ignored, and remember that he hit 31 home runs in the regular season.
World Series Betting — Which Garcia will show up?
Luis Garcia was brilliant in Game 6 against the Red Sox, going five and two-thirds Innings and striking out seven batters while giving up only a single hit. And that is what propelled the Astros into the World Series.
But the question is whether we are going to see THAT Garcia or the one who had three very rough starts prior to that, allowing 13 runs, 14 hits, eight walks and four homers in just 8-2/3 innings.
It is also worth noting, we suppose, that his fastball was clocking out at about 4.5 miles per hour more than his average during the regular season. Has he really stepped up to a new level?
World Series Betting — Houston may get what it likes from Anderson
Ian Anderson is a young pitcher, with a lot of potential. And what a lot of people are impressed by is the fact that he knows how to change speeds. In fact, you could say that his changeup is his “out” pitch. He’s very good with it, and he throws it almost one-third of the time. And he is someone who knows how to get left-handed hitters out.
But you know, some teams are better equipped to handle certain pitches than others. This World Series matches the top two teams at hitting changeups this season in Major League Baseball. The Braves are actually first, with the Astros second, but the difference is that Anderson is the guy who likes to rely on his changeup. So you might want to ask yourself whether he will get off his A-game and go to something he doesn’t do as well, or whether he we’ll stick with what he knows best.
And by the way, in terms of props, it is interesting to note that there has been a first-inning run scored in seven consecutive World Series games. Currently in the Prop Builder, the price is -125 that there will not be a first-inning run scored, and – 106 that there will be.
World Series Betting — Our pick
Since we would like Houston here primarily based on a favorable matchup against their starting pitcher, we feel more comfortable with the five-inning prop, in which the Astros are -105 underdogs. And we might also put something on the “over” at both the five-inning (4.5 runs) and the full-game (8.5) levels.
