There may still be one more stop on the road to UFC 155, but that hasn’t slowed UFC President Dana White from making sure that the final Pay Per View of 2012 is a hit with sports betting fans. The UFC has already released the scheduled bouts for its final event of the year, which will happen December 29, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. With several big names, some potential title contenders, and the UFC Heavyweight championship on the line in the main event, UFC 155 has been built to be a monster ending to the calendar year.

The online betting promise starts at the top, where UFC Heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos will defend his title against the man he dethroned in Cain Valasquez. It will be more than a year since Dos Santos knocked out Valasquez in just 64 seconds when these two meet, but after watching Valasquez register his own first-round TKO against Antonio Silva at UFC 146, it is clear that he is deserving of a rematch. Dos Santos successfully defended his title with a second-round TKO win over Frank Mir at that same Pay Per View, so both online sportsbook fighters will have had plenty of preparation time for this championship tilt.

As for the rest of the main card, a middleweight bout between former No. 1 contender Yushin Okami and Alan Belcher should be a solid start, before another former No. 1 contender steps in to the octagon as Gray Maynard takes on Joe Lauzon in a lightweight contest. The second middleweight fight will feature Chris Weidman and Tim Boetsch, but the real intrigue comes in the form of a UFC Light Heavyweight bout that will precede the main event in which Forrest Griffin takes on rising star Phil Davis. Griffin was originally scheduled to face Chael Sonnen before the latter was asked to participate in the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, forcing White to find a replacement. The easy answer is Davis, who is coming off a dominant submission win over Wagner Prado at UFC 153. Davis is considered to be a potential future No. 1 contender, and a win over a name as big as Forrest Griffin will be the next step in that climb.

Considering that a rough string of injuries has already affected a series of cards so far this year, there won’t be many players that get too far ahead of themselves when it comes to appreciating the potential for this card before it actually happens. There will be no shortage of big name fighters at UFC 155 as well as all goes according to plan, and for White and the UFC there will be a strong hope that injuries don’t once again compromise what looks to be a stacked finale to 2012.
