State Farm Champions Classic Late Game is Kentucky Vs. Kansas
The fans at United Center will host the nightcap of the State Farm Champions Classic. The 7th-Ranked Kentucky Wildcats and the 4th-Ranked Kansas Jayhawks take to the court in a classic matchup between NCAA powerhouse programs.
The event brings together four of college basketball’s all-time great programs for an early-season doubleheader. It began in 2011 with a random pairing of teams.
Oddsmakers opened the Jayhawks as -3.5-point favorites versus the Wildcats, while the game’s total opened at 155. Kansas is now a 5-point favorite and the total has dropped to 152.
Jayhawks Ready for Talented Kentucky in the Champions Classic
Kansas has played just one game, a 92-56 rout of Tennessee State at home on Friday.
Senior Devonte’ Graham paced the Jayhawks with 10 points. He chipped in seven rebounds and a career-best 12 assists. The Sr. came up three boards shy of his first triple-double. The Jayhawks also picked up a double-double from freshman Marcus Garrett. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior guard Legervald Vick was Kansas’ leading scorer with 23 points. Senior guard Svi Mykhailiuk chipped in 15 points. Sophomore Udoka Azubuike had 13 and sophomore Malik Newton scored 12.
Freshman forward Billy Preston sat out a one-game suspension for missing curfew and a class.
Wildcats have Their Hands Full in Champions Classic
Kentucky was a 73-69 winner in their most recent outing at home against the Vermont Catamounts. They failed to cover the -12.5-point spread as favorites.
Kentucky have their hands full just worrying about their freshman-dominated team. Especially defense from his guards Quade Green and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Kentucky owns victories over Utah Valley and Vermont.
Freshman Hamidou Diallo leads the Wildcats in scoring at 17.0 points per game. Freshman Kevin Knox is at 11.5 and freshman P.J. Washington at 11.0. Knox is the top rebounder at 7.0 per game.
