Phillips Leading Scorching Braves Offense
The Atlanta Braves battle the Milwaukee Brewers at SunTrust Park on Sunday afternoon. The Braves will be looking to win their 5th straight game and sweep the 1st place Brewers. The Braves are also 4-1 against the Brewers this season.
Brandon Phillips his a go-ahead, two-run home run in the third inning Saturday. It sent the Braves on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Brewers at SunTrust Park. It was the third consecutive game with a homer for the Atlanta native who was traded to the Braves in February from the Reds.
Oddsmakers opened the Braves as -130-moneyline favorites versus the Brewers, while the game’s total opened at 9.5. The total has stayed the same, but the Braves are down to a -110-moneyline favorite now.
Teams Best Starts on Mound Today
Right hander Zach Davies will take the mound for the Brewers to start this game. Davies is 7-4 this season with a 5.40 ERA. Davies is coming off a 7-3 loss to Pittsburgh in his most recent start Tuesday. He gave up seven runs on 10 hits, two of them home runs. He tied his career high for hits and runs allowed. Davies allowed six runs in the first inning. It put the Brewers in a hole from which they could not climb out of.
The Braves will counter Davies with Julio Teheran. Right hander Teheran has a 4.76 ERA to go along with a 6-5 record this season. Teheran probably deserved a better fate in his last outing. It was a 6-3 loss to San Francisco on Tuesday. Teheran pitched seven scoreless innings. He was betrayed by a long ball and some shaky defense. Three errors in the eighth erased his opportunity for a win. In 7 1/3 innings, Teheran allowed four runs (three earned) and six hits.
