Pistons Look for Answers as they Face Raptors
The Eastern Conference leading Toronto Raptors battle the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday night. The game will kick-off ESPN’s Wednesday night coverage. Tip-off is set for 8 pm EST.
Oddsmakers opened the Raptors as -5-point favorites versus the Pistons, while the game’s total opened at 215. The line has held steady, but the total has dropped to 212.5.
Blake Griffin was supposed to lead the Detroit Pistons to the promised land. The blockbuster trade they made with the Los Angeles Clippershas failed to turn their season around. They have lost nine of their last 11 games. The team just got swept on a three-game road trip.
Detroit was a 112-90 loser in its last match on the road against the Cleveland Cavaliers. They failed to cover the +6-point spread as underdogs, while the total score of 202 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.
Detroit fell apart in the second half at Cleveland on Monday. It resulted in a 112-90 loss. The Cavs outscored the Pistons 58-41 after halftime. Cleveland had such a big lead that their starters sat in the fourth quarter.
The Pistons shot 39.1 percent from the field and got outrebounded 53-40.
Pistons Can’t Put Full Game Together
They also lost over the weekend to pitiful Orlando in overtime. Then the Pistons came up empty in the late going to Miami. The Heat and Milwaukee now hold the last two playoff spots. Detroit is 5-games down at the moment.
Griffin has broken out of a bad shooting slump. He has averaged 28 points and 5.5 assists over the past two games. HIs teammates have not been too much help. Andre Drummond and Reggie Bullock are the only other players who have reached double figures in those losses.
Toronto stretched its winning streak to five games Tuesday by pulling away from Atlanta 106-90. Toronto has won 12 of its last 13 games. They haven’t lost more than two straight all season.
The Raptors pummeled the Pistons last week in Toronto, 123-94. They shot 52.4 percent and made 17 threes while outscoring Detroit in every quarter.
