CBS Sports Classic Hosts Top Programs Each Year
The fans at Smoothie King Center will see the Ohio State Buckeyes and the 5th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels battle on Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic. Tip-off is at 1:30 pm EST and CBS Sports will have the telecast.
This will be the 3,000th game in North Carolina program history. They are a stellar 2,216-783 all-time record.
Oddsmakers opened the Tar Heels as -6.5-point favorites versus the Buckeyes, while the game’s total opened at 158. The line is UNC -7.5 and the total has dropped to 154.
Last time out for North Carolina, they were a 79-75 loser as they battled the Wofford Terriers at home. They failed to cover in the match as a -25-point favorite.
The Tar Heels were off their game offensively against Wofford. They also had trouble defensively inside. UNC coach Roy Williams will want to fix their problems in the final non-conference game on their schedule.
North Carolina hasn’t dropped consecutive games since February 2016.
North Carolina had transfer Cameron Johnson playing for the first time in the Wofford game. He scored 10 points as a reserve after coming off knee surgery.
Center Micah Potter is working his way back into the rotation. He has missed time with an ankle injury. He started four games earlier this season.
In the loss to Wofford, UNC shot a season-high 38 free throws. The team made 28 of them.
UNC leads the series with Ohio State by an 11-2 record. Williams is 4-0. The Tar Heels have won the last six matchups.
Ohio State has had a Tough Schedule So Far
Ohio State was a 94-65 winner in their most recent outing at home against the Citadel Bulldogs. They failed to cover the -31.5-point spread as favorites.
Ohio State was unranked two years ago when it defeated No. 4 Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic.
The Buckeyes will have played both teams that were in the 2017 national championship game after today. They lost in November to Gonzaga. The score was 86-59 in the PK80 Invitational in Portland, Ore.
Ohio State last played both title game combatants from the previous season in 1993-94. That year they lost to North Carolina and fell twice to Michigan.
