Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots will try to Control the Clock
By Charles Jay
Pro Football bettors will have their eyes on the Cleveland Browns today. Bill Belichick has had to endure another coaching challenge this season. Last year he had to indoctrinate a rookie quarterback into the lineup, and the results were fascinating, as the New England Patriots made the playoffs.
Now BetAnySports customers are watching as another rookie, much more raw, has taken the reins. His name is Bailey Zappe, and after extending the Green Bay Packers into overtime in his first appearance, he led the Pats to a 29-0 win over the Detroit Lions last week.
The Cleveland Browns are biding their time with a backup quarterback who is very familiar to Belichick. Jacoby Brissett has been leading the team, with mixed results, and the Browns will be laying points at home as these teams meet at FirstEnergy Stadium at 1 p.m. ET.
The Browns are coming off a bitter loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, where they had to a chance who win the game with a field goal. But Cade York missed, and Cleveland sustained another close defeat, this one by a 30-28 count. They are 2-3, and those three losses have come by a combined six points.
Last year New England destroyed Cleveland 45-7 behind rookie quarterback Mac Jones, who’s high ankle sprain has made him inactive again, even though he’s practiced.

Pro Football Odds & Preview — Let’s talk about the Cleveland Browns
Brissett is minding the store while the Cleveland Browns wait for the return of DeShaun Watson, which by the way, may not come too soon after some more sexual assault allegations have been leveled at him this week. Brissett has completed 64% of his passes, which means less and less these days, and he’s averaging seven yards per attempt.
The big offensive weapon in this game for them is Nick Chubb, who leads the NFL with 593 rushing yards. But don’t discount Amari Cooper, who has 304 yards in receptions with three touchdowns.
Pro Football Odds & Preview — Let’s talk about the Patriots
Zappe, a fourth-round pick out of Western Kentucky, completed 17 of 21 passes against Detroit. Belichick ideally envisions him as more of a game manager, as they’ll let the rushing game take over. New England is pretty strong in all areas of the ground game, averaging 4.6 yards per attempt as a team. There is a legitimate 1-2 punch between Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson, who has averaged 5.5 yards a pop.
Of course, it also has to be acknowledged that the Patriots scored only one offensive touchdown last week. They had fivbe field goals and a fumble return for a TD.
Pro Football Odds & Preview — So what’s the verdict?
Well, we know what New England is going to try to do, which is to establish its ground game in a big way and allow Zappe to once in a while find people like Jacobi Meyers (seven catches for 111 yards last week) down the field. And the thing about Cleveland is that they will probably do everything to accommodate that.
At least that’s what we see in the numbers. The Browns are giving up 5.3 yards per carry, and permitted the Chargers to run wild for 238 on the ground last week. Keep in mind that Los Angeles was one of the least successful rushing teams in the league going into that one.
And if you are giving Belichick what he wants, it’s going to be very tough to beat him as an underdog. So we will take the Patriots here, hoping that Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett, who came back into the lineup last week, doesn’t totally disrupt things.
