Banged up Falcons Take on Dangerous Panthers
The Atlanta Falcons host the Carolina Panthers in an important NFC South showdown this Sunday. It is a NFL feature matchup in the early games in a 1 p.m. start on FOX.
VietBet opened the Falcons as 4.5-point home favorites with the total set at 44 points. The line is now Atlanta -6, with the total holding steady.
Carolina got off to a winning start both straight-up and against the spread. The Panthers were a three-point home favorite in Sunday’s 16-8 grinder over Dallas. The total stayed UNDER the VietBet closing 41.5-point line.
The Panthers now head on the road with an 8-3 record ATS in their last 11 road games. However, they have lost four of their last five games against the Falcons both SU and ATS.
Cam Newton was efficient with the ball against the Cowboys with 161 yards passing on 17 completions. He also led the offense in rushing with 58 yards and a score on 13 rushing attempts.
Christian McCaffrey got his season off to a good start with 50 yards on the ground on 10 carries. The “Great White Hype” had another 45 yards through the air on six receptions.
A couple of injuries to note: Tight end Greg Olsen is OUT with a broken foot. Linebacker Luke Kuechly listed as questionable for Week 2.
Injury Bug Has Hit Falcons
The Falcons faced Philadelphia in its season opener last Thursday night. The game was on the road and it closed as a PICK against the spread. They came up just short at the end in an 18-12 loss. It was very reminiscent of last season’s loss to the Eagles in the playoffs.
The total stayed UNDER the VietBet closing 44-point line. Atlanta has now stayed UNDER in their last five games overall. Atlanta is 4-1 both SU and ATS in its last five home games.
Matt Ryan had a number of chances to reverse his team’s fortunes in this second-straight meeting against Philadelphia. In the end, he could not come up with the plays when he needed to the most.
The play-calling in the Red Zone has been suspect since Steve Sarkisian was hired as Offensive Coordinator. Putting all the blame on Matt Ryan is not fair with all the weapons the Falcons have at their disposal.
Julio Jones was kept out the end zone. He did torch the Eagles’ secondary with 10 catches for 169 yards. Atlanta’s running game only managed to gain 74 yards on 18 rushing attempts.
As far as how to bet this game, I would take the
Carolina Panthers and the 6-points in what I see as a three-point game either way. These games seem to be close and many times a field goal separates the two teams.
