Week 2 in the NFL gets underway with the Philadelphia Eagles going on the road to face the Kansas City Chiefs. The game is a 1 p.m. start on FOX at Arrowhead Stadium. BetAnySports has listed the Chiefs as 5.5-point favorites with the total set at 47.5.
The Eagles opened the 2016 season with a road win against Chicago before losing their next seven road games straight-up. They are hoping for a much better track record this season following this past Sunday’s 30-17 road victory against Washington as slight one-point favorites on BetAnySports’ closing line. The total stayed UNDER 49.5 points in that game. Philadelphia went just 2-6 against the spread last season on the road with the total going OVER in six of the eight games.
The main storyline this Sunday will be second-year head coach Doug Pederson going up against his old boss in Kansas City with the sub-plot being Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid going up against a franchise he helped lead to four-straight NFC title games in the early 2000’s. On the field for Philly, it is still going to come down to second-year quarterback Carson Wentz’s poise under pressure as well as its defense’s ability to once again put pressure on the opposing team’s quarterback.
Kansas City Chiefs Flying High After Destroying Pats
Kansas City is flying high coming into its home opener after routing New England 42-27 last Thursday night as an eight-point road underdog. The total went way OVER BetAnySports’ closing 47.5-point line in that game and it has gone OVER in five of the Chiefs’ last eight games overall. They closed out their 2016 run with a 5-2 record ATS in their last seven games, but they are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games.
Alex Smith started his 13th season in the NFL with one of his best overall performances during this extended career. He lit up the Patriots’ secondary with 368 yards passing and four scoring strikes while completing 28 of his 35 passing attempts. Kansas City also racked up another 185 yards on the ground behind running back Kareem Hunt. He gained 148 yards rushing on 17 carries for an average of 8.7 yards per attempt.
I am a bit surprised that Kansas City is only favored by 4.5 points at home on BetAnySports’ current line given just how strong this team looked against the NFL’s defending champs. I would not bet against the Chiefs right now, but Philly brings some firepower of its own into this contest. The teacher probably bests the student, but I am betting that both teams score enough points to take the total OVER the current 47.5-point line.
