Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs Fight for AFC West
Two 6-6 teams sitting at the top of their division clash this Sunday. The Oakland Raiders are going on the road to face the Kansas City Chiefs in a 1 p.m. start on CBS from Arrowhead Stadium. BetAnySports opened the Chiefs as 3.5-point home favorites with the total set at 47. The Line has inched up to KC as a 4-point favorite and the total is now at 48.
The Raiders evened their record on the year to 6-6 straight-up with Sunday’s 24-17 victory against the New York Giants. They failed to cover BetAnySports’ closing 10-point spread they are a costly 4-7-1 against the spread. The total has now stayed UNDER in their last three games. Oakland is 2-3 ATS this season when closing as an underdog.
Both Michael Crabtree (league suspension) and Amari Cooper (concussion) were out of the lineup in Sunday’s win, but Derek Carr still manage to throw for 287 yards including 97 yards to Cordarrelle Patterson as the team’s leading receiver. Marshawn Lynch added 101 rushing yards and a touchdown run to the winning effort. Overall, Oakland is still ranked 25th in the league in rushing yards and it is 21st in scoring with 20.8 points per game.
Kansas City Chiefs Look to Find Early Season Dominance
Kansas City continues to head in the wrong direction following a promising 5-0 start (SU and ATS) with Sunday’s 38-31 loss to the New York Jets as a four-point road favorite. It is now 6-6 both SU and ATS with an even 5-5 record ATS when closing as a favorite. The total went OVER 44.5 points against the Jets after staying UNDER in four of the Chiefs’ previous six games.
The Chiefs’ offense had been in a major funk in its last four games heading into the game against New York with a combined 55 points scored, so the 31 points scored in Sunday’s loss was a step in the right direction. Alex Smith threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns against zero interceptions. The defense allowed 488 yards to the Jets and this unit is now ranked 30th in the NFL in yards allowed (382.2) and 15th in points allowed (22.8).
Kansas City has a SU 4-1 edge in its last five home games against the Raiders, but it lost this season’s series opener 31-30 on Oct. 19 as a three-point road favorite. Even though that game went way OVER BetAnySports’ closing 46.5-point total line, I am going with the UNDER 48 points as my ‘best bet’ pick given each team’s current form.
