Panthers and Lions are in Must Win Modes for Playoff Race
The Carolina Panthers return to action this Sunday as 4-point road favorites for a 1 p.m. kickoff on FOX against the Detroit Lions. BetAnySports has set the total line at 49 points for this NFC tilt at Ford Field. The last time the Panthers took to the field was last Thursday night. They probably wished they stayed in the locker room at Heinz Field in a 52-21 loss to Pittsburgh. The Panthers were 3.5-point road underdogs with BetAnySports. This was their first loss both straight-up and against the spread in their last four games. They have an overall record of 6-3 SU and 5-4 ATS. Carolina is 1-3 (SU and ATS) in four previous road games this year. Everything that could go wrong against Pittsburgh did for one of the better teams in the NFC this season. Overall with Cam Newton under center, the Panthers are averaging 26.8 points per game. While the passing game is pretty far down the list in average yards, Carolina is ranked third in the league when it comes to running the ball. Christian McCaffrey is the team’s leading rusher with 579 yards and four touchdowns on 123 carries.Lions are Desperate for a Win
Detroit’s current skid reached three games both SU and ATS with Sunday’s 34-22 loss to Chicago. They were a seven-point road underdog. The Lions are 3-6 SU overall with a 5-4 record ATS. The total went OVER 44.5 points against the Bears and it has gone OVER BetAnySports’ closing line in four of their last five games. Detroit is 2-2 both SU and ATS at home this season. Matthew Stafford had a long day at Soldier Field on Sunday with a pair interceptions and six sacks for a loss of 45 yards. This was on the heels of the offense’s dismal showing against Minnesota the Sunday before in a 24-9 road defeat. The pressure to move the ball down field through the air has been heightened by a running game that is ranked 23rd in the league in rushing yards per game. The Lions’ defense is 28th when it comes to points allowed (27.1). Carolina had a bad day against Pittsburgh while Detroit is spiraling downward in the wrong direction. Lay the points and take the Panthers ATS in this one.NFL Betting Odds & Trends
