NFL Betting – Houston Texans at Miami Dolphins
In this one, the Dolphins are a 5.5 -point favorite, with a total of 46.5 points. And of course, these were the teams involved in trade talks for Deshaun Watson. So Tua Tagovailoa has been told he’s the quarterback the rest of the way, although you know that after Miami’s trade efforts, he better perform or he might be out the door at season’s end. He has averaged only 6.6 yards per attempt, and that hardly presents Miami as a dangerous offense.
Meanwhile, Tyrod Taylor is back from a hamstring injury to take over for Houston. He probably has the most formidable receiver on the field in Brandin Cooks, but the Texan’ defense has been seriously lacking, and the players might have less confidence in management then do those of the Dolphins.
We could see Tua playing better with some of the external pressure off him, and don’t forget that Houston’s biggest threat on the ground, Mark Ingram, has been traded to New Orleans. We’ll take the Dolphins in this one.
NFL Betting — New England Patriots at Carolina Panthers
New England comes into this game laying points on the road — they are 3.5-point favorites at BetAnySports, with a total of 41.5 points. One thing to take note of is that Carolina has surrendered fewer yards per drive in any team in the NFL. But perhaps the Patriots can find a little crack along the defensive front, as the Panthers are allowing 4.4 yards per carry.
It’s no secret that Bill Belichick has been thinking about the ground game more, as he has called 49 % running plays over the last three games. Mac Jones has not necessarily done anything sensational, but he has been steady in a rather controlled environment.
The Panthers could get Christian McCaffrey back in action, and they won games with him, but those games were over teams like Houston and the New York Jets. Sam Darnold has seen his numbers dropping, and he had only 121 yards through the air last week against Atlanta. On the season, he has seven touchdown passes with eight interceptions, and he’s facing a real nemesis in Bill Belichick, who he obviously saw too much of when he was with the Jets. Career-wise, Darnold is 53% against Belichick, with six interceptions and only one touchdown pass.
Don’t forget that the Pats have won three of four, and they got within a whisker of beating two of the top four teams in the NFL (Dallas and Tampa Bay) with a rookie QB at the helm. They’re coming around. We’re moving with the Patriots here.
NFL Betting — Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints
The Saints have been installed as a six-point favorite here, with a total of 41.5 points, even though they have made the decision to go with Trevor Siemian at quarterback. The fact is, New Orleans has been a heck of a solid team on the defensive side of the ball, allowing just 1.62 points per drive, which is the third best figure in the NFL.
But that’s just part of it. Jack-of-all-trades Taysom Hill has been activated, and even though he won’t start, we imagine he’s going to be very prominent in this outcome.
Unquestionably the Falcons are suffering the absence of top receiver Calvin Ridley, who decided he needed to take some time off and deal with his mental health issues. Carolina almost completely shut down tight end Kyle Pitts last week, holding him to 13 yards on two catches. Expect the Saints to make him a genuine focus. .
And Matt Ryan has been kind of a putt-putt passer for Atlanta, as he has averaged only 6.8 intended air yards per attempt, putting him right down near the bottom of NFL starting quarterbacks. In a game between two hated rivals, we are siding with the Saints.
