Nevada Has Had Record Setting Season
San Diego State hosts 21st-ranked Nevada in the season finale for both teams. Nevada has the regular season title wrapped up and will be looking to end the season on a high note. Tip-off is set for 10 pm EST and CBS Sports Network will have the coverage.
Oddsmakers have San Diego State as 2-point favorites. The total is sitting at 153.
Nevada left little doubt that the Wolf Pack are the best team in the Mountain West Conference. They demolished in-state rival UNLV by 27 points on Wednesday night. With San Diego State’s defeat of Boise State, 72-64, Nevada clinched it’s second consecutive MWC regular season title.
The Wolf Pack can add to their record-setting season with a win over the Aztecs tonight. Nevada improved to 7-1 on the road in conference play. The team can tie Mountain West records for wins in a season with 16. They can also claim records for road wins with eight with a victory.
Caleb Martin had 19 points and eight rebounds in the clincher. He missed the first meeting between these teams on Feb. 7 with a foot sprain. It was 86-78 UNLV win.
Cody Martin, who is Caleb’s twin brother, tinkered with a triple-double. He finished with a game-high 26 points. He also chipped in nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Jordan Caroline, last year’s MWC Tournament MVP, added 22 points. Kendall Stephens added 14 and Josh Hall added 10.
As shown above the Wolf Pack is loaded with talented playmakers.
Aztecs Look to Upset Nevada With Talented Bunch
Redshirt freshman Jalen McDaniels posted a double-double in the win over Boise State. He had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Malik Pope, who sat out one game after being cleared of violating NCAA rules, scored 12 points.
In their meeting on Feb. 10, Caroline scored 26 points and Stephens added 21 to lead Nevada to an 83-58 win in Reno. So revenge will be on the mind of the Aztecs.
The Aztecs made only 21 of 62 shots from the field. That is only 33.9 percent and only 10 of 30 from 3-point land. They went to the free-throw line only 10 times. They made six, and the Wolf Pack were 16 of 20.
The win over the Aztecs was the first of Nevada’s current six-game win streak. They seem to only have gotten better. This is despite losing point guard Lindsey Drew for the season because of an Achilles tendon injury.
