The No. 9 LSU Tigers saw their hopes of reclaiming No. 1 status dashed by an SEC rival last weekend, but they’ll have little time to mourn in Week 7 as the No. 3 South Carolina Gamecocks hone in on the chance to send Les Miles and company to a second consecutive loss. Although the Tigers were the consensus top team in the country heading into the regular season, projected to finish higher than even reigning national champion Alabama, the club has done little to live up to the hype. Their inability to prove that they’ve deserved such lofty praise on the BCS futures, has cost them in the AP polls.

Now reeling after a surprising Week 6 defeat against SEC East threat Florida, the Tigers have seen their college football odds plummet. With just 20/1 odds of winning the National Championship, LSU’s chances are as slim as they’ve been all season.

Lining up against them in the Saturday tilt will be yet another contender from the SEC East. The Gamecocks stuffed rival Georgia in a big way in Week 6, but it’s hard to tell if that momentum will carry over into the matchup with a team that experts and oddsmakers alike previously considered out of their league entirely.

The Gamecocks have 10/1 odds of winning the BCS, but are three-point underdogs for their matchup with LSU specifically.
