Betting On Michigan Basketball

It is one of the genuine showdowns of the college basketball season, because not only does it has a special significance in one of the best conferences in the country, it may also be a test of who the best team is on a national scale. It is obviously of great interest to customers of BetAnySports.

The Michigan Wolverines carry the #1 ranking in the Associated Press college hoops poll, and they will be visiting the third-ranked Indiana Hoosiers in a game that will get underway at 9 PM ET at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, IN.

NCAA College Basketball
Michigan Wolverines (20-1 SU, 13-6 ATS) at Indiana Hoosiers (19-2 SU, 10-9 ATS)
Saturday, February 2 – 9 PM ET
Assembly Hall

In the college basketball betting odds that have been established on this game, the Hoosiers are laying some points:

BetAnySports Odds

Indiana Hoosiers -5.5
Michigan Wolverines  +5.5

Over 143.5 points  -110
Under 143.5 points  -110

Indiana wins game  -240
Michigan wins game  +200

Right now Michigan, as mentioned, is #1 in the AP poll, garnering 51 of 65 votes, although they trail Kansas in the USA Today/ESPN rankings. Indiana is #3 in both polls at the moment.

That could change, quite obviously.

Indiana is coming off a rout of Purdue in which they sank a dozen three-pointers. That was the worst home loss the Boilermakers have ever sustained. Can they get hot from the perimeter again? Well, Michigan has held opponents to a little less than 31% from beyond the arc. Michigan and Indiana are a great match, in the respect that they both shoot 50% or better from the field, 40% or better from three-point range, and limit opponents to about the same accuracy from “downtown.”

There are great players on both sides, for certain, but perhaps none of them have been playing better than the guy who triggers the attack for John Beilein’s team. Trey Burke, the six-foot point guard, has been almost error-free lately, with 30 assists and six turnovers in his last four games. And he has been pacing a team with four players averaging in double digits. The Wolverines have the best backcourt in the country, bar none. Tim Hardaway Jr. is a 48% shooter averaging 15.5 points, and Nik Stauskas has nailed almost 50% of his shots from beyond the three-point line.

Indiana, the -240 favorite to win straight-up at BetAnySports, counters with a team that can hurt its opponents on the inside or outside. Cody Zeller is, like the aforementioned Burke, a candidate for player of the year, not just on the conference level but the national level as well, and he’s hitting almost 59% with 8.2 rebounds a game. Big guard Victor Oladipo is shooting a sizzling 65.5% and has pulled down six rebounds a contest. Meanwhile, Jordan Hulls is 48% in his three-point attempts, as is Christian Watford.

These teams will meet again in the regular season finale, and yet another encounter in the Big Ten tournament could be well expected. Could they meet for a fourth time? Maybe. They could BOTH be #1 seeds in the Big Dance.

Last year these clubs split two games. In the first one, Indiana hit seven of 11 three-point shots and 55% overall, but only came away with a 73-71 win. The rematch in Ann Arbor saw Michigan get some revenge, with nine treys and a 68-56 win.
