Spurs and Warriors Sputtering in Early Season
The fans at AT&T Center will the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs when they take their seats on Thursday night. TNT will have the telecast and tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm EST. The two teams square off for the first of their three regular-season contests. Taking a look at the standings will show that the Spurs and Warriors have had their difficulties over the first three weeks of the year. They have lost a combined six games already after meeting in the Western Conference finals last year. These teams prove the NBA season is a marathon and not a sprint as both are top contenders in the West. Oddsmakers opened the Warriors as -5.5-point favorites versus the Spurs, while the game’s total opened at 216.5. Now the line is the Warriors -8-points and the total is up to 218.Spurs Looking to Break a Rare Losing Streak
The Spurs were a 108-94 loser in their most recent outing on the road against the Celtics. They failed to cover the +4-point spread as underdogs, while the total score (202) made winners of OVER bettors. San Antonio heads home after losing three straight games on the road. The losses to Orlando, Indiana and to Boston was a rarity. It was the Celtics’ most-lopsided win over San Antonio since March 1997. That was Gregg Popovich’s first year coaching the Spurs. The Spurs got a career-high 18 points and five rebounds from rookie Brandon Paul. Rudy Gay chipped in 14 points, and they got 11 points a pop from LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol. Gasol also pulled down eight boards. San Antonio hit 12 3-pointers in 26 tries but went just 10-for-20 from the foul line. The Spurs have played their first seven games without star forward Kawhi Leonard and veteran point guard Tony Parker, both of whom are recovering from quad injuries. That is not going to change any time soon, as they want them completely healthy when returningWarriors Looking to Find Same Chemistry as Last Season
Golden State won its last outing, a 141-113 result against the Clippers on October 30. The Warriors covered in that game as a -6-point favorite, while the 254 combined points took the game OVER the total. Golden State heads to San Antonio on the heels of a 141-113 rout of the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. That victory was a day after the Warrior fell at home to the Detroit Pistons. Stephen Curry scored 31 points and Kevin Durant added 19 on Monday. It was the Warriors 11th consecutive victory over the Clippers. Offense has not been a problem for the Warriors this season. Their defense and turnovers have been below their standards. When Golden State puts all the pieces together they are tough to beat.Recent Form
