Dolphins Cutler Has Never Beaten the Pats
The New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins meet at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday Night Football to wrap up NFL Week 14. ESPN will have the television coverage and Kickoff is set for 8:30 pm EST.
Jay Cutler has never beaten the Patriots and he is not expected to do so Monday night. While playing for the Broncos and Bears his teams have lost by 34, 29 and 28 points in his three attempts against the Patriots.
Oddsmakers opened the Patriots as -10.5-point favorites versus the Dolphins, while the game’s total opened at 48.5. The line is still the same after moving to 11.5 and back down.
Dolphins are Longshot to Make Playoffs
In their last action, Miami was a 35-9 winner at home against the Denver Broncos. They covered the +1-point spread as underdogs, while the combined score (44) was profitable news for OVER bettors.
The Dolphins have zero hope of winning the AFC East. They are long shots to return to the playoffs for a second straight year as a wild card. Miami did get a boost in the arm from the win against the Broncos.
The Dolphins should be fairly healthy for Monday’s game. Pro Bowl center Mike Pounceyshould play after leaving the Broncos game with a tweaked hamstring. Cornerback Cordrea Tankersley is fine after suffering ankle and shoulder injuries.
Miami is 26th in the league by averaging 17.4 points. This is an improvement from its last-place standing just a couple of weeks ago.
Patriots Without Gronk and Fighting for Home Field Advantage
The Patriots were a 23-3 winner in their most recent outing on the road against the Buffalo Bills. They covered the -7.5-point spread as favorites, while the total score (26) made winners of UNDER bettors.
New England entered this week tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the best record in the AFC. They will be without star tight end Rob Gronkowski. He was suspended for one game for his panty waisted cheap shot last week against Tre’Davious White of the Buffalo Bills.
Dwayne Allen will replace Gronkowski at tight end. Allen was a first-team All-ACC tight end at Clemson and a third-round pick in 2012. He is a capable player, and Tom Brady should find him in situations to make him successful. Allen has five catches for 40 yards and one touchdown this year. He has been targeted 13 times.
At wide receiver and tight end alone, the Patriots will be without five key players on Monday. Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett at tight end. Julian Edelman is out with a knee issue, Chris Hogan is out with hisshoulder, and Malcolm Mitchell has a knee problem at wide receiver.
The Patriots should be fine with a receiver group that includes Brandin Cooks, who has 53 catches, 886 yards, 16.7 average, five touchdowns. Danny Amendola has 46 catches, 489 yards, 10.6 average, two touchdowns. Former Miami Hurricanes speed-burner Phil Dorsett has lately become the third receiver.
Brady is still at the top of his game at age 40. He has thrown for 26 touchdowns and 3,632 yards with only four interceptions. The Patriots are averaging 29 points per game. That ranks first in the AFC and fourth in the NFL.
