Longtime Chief, Charles, Returns to Arrowhead Since Joining Broncos
The fans at Arrowhead Stadium will the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs when they take their seats on Monday night. ESPN will have the Monday Night Football telecast as always. The game will kickoff around 8:30 pm EST.
Oddsmakers opened the Chiefs as -7-point favorites versus the Broncos, while the game’s total opened at 44.5. The line is still -7, but the total has dropped to 42.
Jamaal Charles’ life in football over the last two years has been a series of up-and-down emotions for the 30-year-old running back. He played 51 home games for the Chiefs at Arrowhead and rushed for 7,260 yards. The four-time Pro-Bowl running back also added 2,457 receiving and scored 63 touchdowns over nine seasons in Kansas City.
Charles tore the ACL in his right knee in October 2015. The injury cost him the most of the season. In 2016 he returned to the field, but knee inflammation limited him to only 12 carries in three games.
The Chiefs parted ways with the aging Charles in February. He signed in May with the Broncos.
Chiefs Want to Stop the Run
Kansas City was a 31-30 loser in its last match on the road against the Oakland Raiders. They failed to cover the -3-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 61 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.
The Chiefs wanted to stop the run last week against Oakland. They succeeded. The team held the Raiders to 88 yards on the ground. Oakland quarterback Derek Carr gashed Kansas City’s pass defense for 417 yards though. It led his club to a 31-30 comeback victory.
The Chiefs found the successor to Charles in this year’s draft with Kareem Hunt. His historic start helped smooth over the ire that was conjured up by the departure of Charles, especially to the Broncos. Hunt has emerged as a leading Rookie of the Year candidate. The Chiefs rank second in the league at 29.6 points per game.
Hunt leads the NFL with 717 rushing yards. He also has 25 catches for 285 yards with six total touchdowns. He hasn’t scored in the last four games. He topped 100 yards from scrimmage in each of his first seven games. That is a league record he hopes to extend Monday night.
Broncos Offense is Struggling to find Rhythm
Denver was a 21-0 loser in its last match on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers. They failed to cover the +0-point spread as underdogs, while the total score of 21 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.
Charles is averaging only eight touches per game through the Broncos’ first six games. More touches for Charles appears what the struggling offense needs. The Broncos seem to play their best when running the football and controlling things with the defense.
