March Madness Basketball — How Arkansas got here
The Razorbacks fashioned a 25-8 record under Eric Musselman, who carries a coaching pedigree and was previously with Nevada. In the rough-and-tumble SEC, the Hogs defeated top-level foes like Auburn, Tennessee ,Kentucky and LSU doiwn the stretch, then beat LSU in the conference tournament before losing to Texas A&M. The SEC is truly stacked.
March Madness Basketball — How Vermont got here
Vermont had an outstanding record of 28-5 and emerged as the America East Conference champion, with an exclamation point. In the conference tournament, they won by margins of 41, 32 and 39points. No other team in the nation dominated their conference tournament quite like that.

March Madness Basketball — What so good about Vermont?
Vermont has a lot of superlatives going for it. The Catamounts are one of the most experienced teams in the country. They are ranked #1 in the country in defensive rebounding percentage, third in two-point shooting percentage, and third in effective field goal percentage.
They also know how to drop it in from beyond the arc, as they are 36.8% accurate. Their top two scorers – Ben Shungu and Ryan Davis – average a little over 33 points per game between them.
March Madness Basketball — What so good about Arkansas?
Well, simply being able to be ultra-competitive in the SEC is enough in the way of credentials. The Razorbacks have one of the conference’s premier guards in JD Notae, who averages over 18 points a game. As a team, they are shooting 75.3% from the free throw line, and that is important, because this is a team that has made a point of getting to the line. In fact, free throws have accounted for 22.5% of their points, which is ninth highest in the nation.
March Madness Basketball — What’s the verdict?
There is a clear class difference in terms of the level of opposition, and although that doesn’t always tell the tale, we wonder whether Vermont has been faced with enough of a serious challenge to get this much respect from the oddsmakers.
Another thing that makes a difference here is that Arkansas has the most meaningful big man in this game. Jaylin Williams, the 6-10 center, is 15th in the nation in defensive rebounding percentage. This is a reasonable number to lay with the Razorbacks.
