Pirates Have Veteran Team Heading Into March Madness
March Madness is upon us. The 9th seeded North Carolina State Wolfpack and the 8th seeded Seton Hall Pirates meet at Intrust Bank Arena. This Midwest Regional matchup will tip-off around 4:30 pm EST. TBS will have the coverage.
Oddsmakers opened the Pirates as -2-point favorites versus the Wolfpack, while the game’s total opened at 156. The line is now Seton Hall -3 and the total has climbed to 158.
Both teams have six victories against teams in the NCAA Tournament field. Each team also were one-and-done in their respective conference tournaments.
N.C. State is back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three years. First year coach Kevin Keatts did a great job after a slow start to the season. Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard has his team in the tournament for the third straight year.
Seton Hall takes a veteran team into the NCAA Tournament looking to break through in the postseason.
N.C. State enters the tournament with losses in two of its last three games. The Wolfpack have knocked off highly regarded teams such as Arizona, Duke and North Carolina on their way to the tourney.
Contrasting Styles for the Teams for March Madness
The only common opponent is Louisville. Seton Hall won a road game Dec. 3 against the Cardinals. N.C. State ended the regular season March 3 with a home victory against Louisville.
N.C. State relies on a pressing defense for success. The Wolfpack also have been strong behind the arc at times this season. They are also using the presence of sophomore post player Omer Yurtseven.
This is the third time Seton Hall has been a No. 8 seed. They won the other two times in the first round. The Pirates had a No. 9 seed last year and fell to Arkansas in the opening round.
Seton Hall hopes that a steady run of clashes with Big East Conference teams prepared the Pirates for various styles in the tournament. Those clashes included No. 1 seeds Villanova and Xavier.
The winner will play either Kansas or Pennsylvania.
