Los Angeles Angels vs. Houston Astros- Tuesday, July 28
First place in the AL West will be on the line this Tuesday night when the Los Angeles Angels kick-off a three-game road series against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. Game time for this series opener is set for 8:10 p.m. (ET) and BetAnySports opened the Angels as +111 road underdogs with Houston set as a -121 favorite at home and the line has now moved to the Astros being a -137 favorite and the Angels at +127. The betting odds for the total opened at 8 and are holding at 8 -125 Under.
The Angels are holding onto a slim one-game lead over Houston in the division race following Sunday’s 13-7 romp against Texas as a heavy -180 home favorite on BetAnySports’ closing MLB money line odds. This snapped a three-game skid, but going back over Los Angeles’ last 11 outings they are still a solid 8-3. The team is 55-43 on the year with a 23-22 record on the road. The total has gone OVER in seven of its last nine road games.
Look for CJ Wilson to get the start for the Angels on Tuesday night. The left-hander has posted a pair of quality starts in his last two outings by allowing a total of just two earned runs on 11 hits through 13 innings pitched. Overall, he has a 3.59 ERA through 20 starts this year.
Houston dropped its last two games as part of a three-game weekend series on the road against Kansas City. It could only manage a total of six runs over the three games after pounding-out 17 runs in a three-game sweep of Boston at home last week. The Astros are now 55-45 on the year with a 33-17 record at home. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games.
Collin McHugh has been tapped as Houston’s starter for Tuesday’s series opener. The right-hander is 11-5 this season through 20 starts and going back over his last 16 starts at home the Astros are a healthy 13-3. He has also pitched well in his last two starts and in 13 innings of work he has only allowed three earned runs on 18 hits. McHugh comes in with an ERA of 4.25 and a 1.28 WHIP.
This should be a hard-fought series between two closely matched teams, but I am going with Houston to take the series opener on Tuesday night. I would give McHugh the slight edge in the pitching matchup and the Astros usually win at home with him on the mound.
