Jayhawks Hold Slim 1-Game Lead in Big XII
The fans at Allen Fieldhouse will see the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Kansas Jayhawks on Monday night in a key late-season Big XII matchup. The game will be televised by ESPN and it will tip-off a few minutes after 9 pm EST.
Oddsmakers opened the Jayhawks as -2.5-point favorites versus the Mountaineers, while the game’s total opened at 158.5.
Kansas won its last outing, a 80-79 result against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on February 11. They failed to cover in that game as a -4.5-point favorite. With Jayhaw star Frank Mason battling illness, freshman guard Josh Jackson took over for the Jayhawks. He become the go-to man with Mason first struggling and then sidelined. Jackson scored a career-best 31 points at Texas Tech. He also added 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double in five games.
In their last action, West Virginia was a 85-66 winner at home against the Kansas State Wildcats. They covered the -7.5-point spread as favorites. For the season, the Mountaineers’ scorers are well-balanced. Junior guard Jevon Carter paces West Virginia with an 11.8 average. Four other players average at least 9.5 points. West Virginia trails first-place Kansas by two games. So a sweep of the season series looks almost necessary to have any regular season title hopes the Mountaineers.
