Jayhawks and Mountaineers Jockeying for Big-12 Positions
The No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks try to keep pace in the Big 12 when they visit the No. 14 West Virginia Mountaineers on Wednesday night.
Basketball has treated us kindly so far this season. There has not been any clear favorite in the NCAA or the NBA. It has made it a treat to sit back and enjoy everything that is going on.
The Big 12 has seemed like it houses some of the best teams in the country, including top-ranked Baylor. If it is the best conference, that is certainly up for debate at this point, but its top two are better than anyone else’s.
Solid Battle Should Take Place
These two teams are both currently ranked inside of the top 25 and boast some of the most complete teams in the college basketball landscape.
Kansas, a traditional powerhouse school, has just been elite on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor.
Everything that the Jayhawks do is cohesive and in a certain rhythm that lets them dominate their opponents.
Couple that with the fantastic pool of talent and experience that the Jayhawks have on their roster, and it is no wonder why they have been able to remain one of the best teams in the country.
Devon Dotson has been lights out for the Jayhawks as a scorer and continues to impress everybody with his play.
A sophomore guard, Dotson averages almost 19 points per game in 34 minutes a game. He is far and away the leader of this team and continues to shine and prosper in that role.
His drive and slashing to the basket has made this Kansas offense work. Attacking the rim puts the defense on its heels, and there haven’t been many teams who can keep Dotson in check.
With senior leader Udoka Azubuike down low inside, these two are a problem for any defense to come and try to stop.
Mountaineers are Complete Team
As for West Virginia, the Mountaineers are more of a complete team and don’t really focus on any one individual player for their offense.
They have a number of guys who play for them, with 11 players who average double digits in minutes. Their starters are barely over 20 minutes per game, which is a far cry from what’s normally expected.
With this approach, the Mountaineers get production from all sorts of areas, and they keep bodies fresh on the floor.
If there is one thing West Virginia likes to do, it is full-court press and get up into its matchups. The Mountaineers pressure the ball like no other team in the country, and Kansas will have to watch its turnover count for this game.

This, That and a College Basketball Dart Throw
The two leading scorers for West Virginia are Derek Culver and Oscar Tshiebwe. I think these two have to be ready to have an impact performance is West Virginia is to win.
A strong offensive performance from those two, along with forcing a number of turnovers, will likely be the key to victory.
For Kansas, it is going to have to remember to play the game at its pace and not get sped up by all of the ball pressure that West Virginia’s defenders bring.
Coming into this game, our friends over at VietBet have West Virginia favored at -2. All U.S. players are accepted at VietBet.
I really like Kansas in this matchup, and I think its experience on its roster is going to prove useful when going against this team.
Bill Self should have his team prepared for this press, and he will get them ready to play and dominate their opponent.
I’m going with Kansas in this one, and I think that’s where the best money is. Make sure you lock in your bets before tip-off!
