Gonzaga Should Get a Test in Wildcats

The Northwestern Wildcats and the Gonzaga Bulldogs meet in the NCAA Tournament round of 32 on Saturday at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The Wildcats became just the fourth team seeded eighth or lower to win in their NCAA Tournament debut.

Oddsmakers opened the Bulldogs as -10.5-point favorites versus the Wildcats, while the game’s total opened at 134.5. Gonzaga is now an 11-point favorite and the total is up to 138.

Last time out for Gonzaga, they were a 66-46 winner as they battled South Dakota State Jackrabbits in their NCAA first round matchup. They failed to cover in the match as a -23-point favorite. For a half the Jackrabbits had Gonzaga on tilt. The Bulldogs didn’t take their first lead until Zach Collins scored a layup 1:40 before halftime. The Zags’ took care of business in the second half.

Northwestern was a 68-66 winner in its NCAA Tournament first round matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores. They covered the +2-point spread as underdogs. Bryant McIntosh clinched the victory with a pair of go-ahead free throws with 14.6 seconds left. The Commodores rallied from a 15-point deficit to push it to the end. The Wildcats shot 49.1 percent from the field and scored 32 points in the paint. It helped them build a 49-34 lead at one point.
