Georgia and Florida in the Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party
Georgia and Florida play every year in Jacksonville. To fans of these two schools that stadium will forever be called the Gator Bowl. The Game will always be dubbed “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” no matter how much sanctimonious school officials try to distance themselves from the name.
The 3rd-ranked Georgia Bulldogs and the Florida Gators will meet on Saturday when they battle at The GATOR BOWL, AKA…EverBank Field.
Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs are in position to win the SEC East and are a College Football Playoff contender. Jim McElwain’s Gators are just trying to find who they are.
It’s been a tumultuous week in Gainesville. Mounting injuries and claims of death threats by McElwain has added to all the usual storylines for the rivalry game.
Florida has beaten Georgia in 21 of the past 26 meetings, but the Bulldogs were a two-touchdown favorite early this week.
Oddsmakers now have the Georgia Bulldogs favored by 12.5-points. The total is at 43 and dropping.
Florida Just Trying to Find Its Way
Florida was a 19-17 loser in its last match at home against the Texas A&M Aggies. They failed to cover the -3.5-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 36 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.
Florida ranks 11th in the SEC in passing offense at 182.3 yards per game. It is last in passing TDs with only five. Feleipe Franks is 2-3 as a starter and took responsibility for UF’s offensive struggles against Texas A&M. He completed 17 of 26 passes for 129 yards. Throw in having no touchdowns and two interceptions.
Georgia Offense is Operating in High Gear
In their last action, Georgia was a 53-28 winner at home against the Missouri Tigers. They failed to cover the -28.5-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (81) was profitable news for OVER bettors.
Georgia is averaging 454.3 yards per game. They are led by running backs Nick Chubb, who has 688 yards, and Sony Michel, who has 492 yards. Freshman D’Andre Swift has chipped in 358 yards as Chubb and Michel haven’t played much in the 4th quarter of games.
Chubb is the seventh-leading rusher in SEC history with 4,042 yards. Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm has played better with every game.
Saturday’s contest in Jacksonville will represent another first for Fromm. He has yet to play in a rivalry game as intense as Georgia-Florida. Fromm has completed 75 of 121 passes for 1,162 yards. He also has 12 touchdowns and three interceptions.
