The Sports World Has Been Turned on Its Head by Coronavirus
Coronavirus has made this a very hard year for sports fans. Here’s list of many of the cancellations and postponements caused by the COVID-19 virus.
NBA
The NBA suspended the season indefinitely after Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for coronavirus.
NCAA Tournament
The NCAA canceled the Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments.
College Football
The Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes canceled their spring football games.
MLB
MLB suspended Spring Training and delayed the beginning of the regular season by at least two weeks.
NHL
The NHL season was suspended, though there is hope to resume.
Soccer
La Liga postponed games for at least the next two weeks.
The MLS suspended the season immediately until further notice.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has tested positive for coronavirus. Arsenal have closed their training ground and some of their players are self-isolating. The Premier League held an emergency meeting on March 13 to determine if games will be postponed.
Concacaf suspended the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League immediately.
UEFA postponed the Champions League Round of 16 second leg games scheduled for next Tuesday.
Tennis
The ATP suspended men’s professional tennis tour for six weeks due to public health and safety concerns.
XFL
The XFL canceled the remainder of the season.
Golf
The Players Championship was canceled, as well as all events
MMA
UFC Fight Night 170 in Brasilia was held without a crowd.
UFC Fight Night in Portland, which is scheduled for April 11, will be moved to the UFC Apex in Las Vegas as a precautionary measure due.
Bellator 241 went on as scheduled.
Boxing
Top Rank banned spectators from Saturday’s event at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Golden Boy Promotions postpones the March 19 and March 28 fights.
Formula 1
Formula 1 and the FIA agreed to cancel this weekend’s season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
NASCAR
The NASCAR races for March 15 were held without fans in attendance.
Horse Racing
The Kentucky Derby will run as normal on May 2. The organizers will be monitoring the situation and will share updates as the date approaches.
