Thundering Herd and Bearcats in NCAAF Week 5 Battle
Week five of the 2019 NCAA Football season is upon us, and there are some very intriguing matchups. The Marshall Thundering Herd will host the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday afternoon in a matchup of 2-1 teams who have both been big surprises this season.
Marshall has been getting the job done with its talented running game this season, and they will look to use that same formula to knock off Cincinnati in this game. The Thundering Herd nearly knocked off a ranked Boise State team earlier this season, and they will not be afraid to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Cincinnati bounced back two weeks ago after a disappointing performance at Ohio State, but they are still looking to find more offense this season. The Bearcats have been getting plenty of balance when they have the ball, but they aren’t putting up huge numbers.
Bearcats Looking for 1st Road Win of Season
Cincinnati will also be looking for their first road win of the season in this game, and beating the Thundering Herd at Marshall is never an easy task.
Even though this is not a conference game for these teams, it could go a long way toward deciding what bowl each team will play in at the end of the season. Both Marshall and Cincinnati still have some work to do to become bowl-eligible, but it looks like they are both heading in that direction this season. This will be one of the biggest mid-major games on the week five schedule.

Marshall might have one of the best rushing attacks in college football this season, but that could all change in this game. The Thundering Herd will be without running back Tyler King after he was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. King was not the leading rusher for Marshall this season, but he was one of their featured tailbacks.
The Thundering Herd have not played since their week three win over Ohio. Marshall was able to come from behind to beat Ohio by a score of 33-31. The Thundering Herd earned respect across the nation with their impressive performance in week two against the Boise State Broncos. Marshall suffered a 14-7 defeat in that contest but has been the one team to completely shut down the Boise State offense this season.
Cincinnati went to Ohio State in week two looking for a massive upset and a resume-building win, but they left the stadium with zero points and plenty of question marks. The Bearcats were thoroughly dominated by the Buckeyes in that game, and it was back to the drawing board. Cincinnati gave up 42 points in that loss, while their offense could do little against the Buckeyes’ talented defense.
The Bearcats were able to bounce back with a convincing win over Miami (Ohio) in week three, and they also had an impressive win over UCLA in week one. Cincinnati is led by quarterback Desmond Ridder, who has thrown for close to 600 yards this season. The Bearcats are also averaging close to 175 rushing yards per game, and they will need to control the clock in this game.
