Alabama Meets Resurgent LSU Saturday Night in Prime-time
The LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide meet on Saturday NIght at Bryant-Denny Stadium. CBS will televise the game in prime-time with kick-off set for 8 pm EST.
Oddsmakers have the Crimson Tide as a 21-point favorite. The total is 46.5. The total has dropped from 48. The spread opened early season as Alabama as a 24-point favorite. The early week line saw the Tide as a 21.5-point favorite.
A month ago this game looked like it may be an easy win for the Crimson Tide. LSU had dropped two out of three games. The biggest of the losses was a blowout by Mississippi State, THEN a baffling home loss to Troy.
The Tigers have ripped off three straight wins after the humiliations. They still have a chance to claim the Southeastern Conference West title.
Alabama Just Keeps on Rolling
In their last action, Alabama was a 45-7 winner at home against the TennesseeVolunteers. They covered the -37-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (52) was profitable news for OVER bettors.
Going back to the 2012 BCS National Championship Game, Alabama has won six straight games in the rivalry.
Alabama enters the game leading the SEC in scoring, rushing, total offense, scoring defense, rushing defense and total defense.
The Crimson Tide lead the series 51-25-5. That includes a 10-0 victory last season in Baton Rouge. Alabama has won eight of the past 10 meetings.
The Crimson Tide has a punishing rushing attack. Damien Harris is averaging 87.1 yards per game. Bo Scarbrough is at 47.1 yards per game as well. Hurts is a threat to scramble and has designed runs. He is averaging 71.5 yards per game on the ground.
LSU Looking to Turn Around Streak Against Alabama
Last time out for LSU, they were a 40-24 winner as they battled the Ole Miss Rebels on the road. LSU covered in the match as a -6.5-point favorite, while 64 combined points moved the game OVER for totals bettors.
LSU has had opportunities to end Alabama’s streak. Last season, the game was scoreless heading into the fourth quarter. The Tigers let Tide quarterback Jalen Hurts escape for a rushing touchdown. Then they sealed it with a field goal.
The Tigers have managed just enough passing success to create some balance on offense. Danny Etling completed 13 of 24 passes for 206 yards against Auburn. He completed 9 of 13 for 200 yards against Ole Miss. He was sacked three times under consistent pressure from the Rebels. That can’t happen against the Tide.
Tigers running back Derrius Guice is showing the form that will likely make him a high first-round pick next spring. He has been plagued by a leg injury for most of the season so he wasn’t producing much. He exploded against Ole Miss and rushed for 276 yards.
