Watson Has Texans Offense Humming
The Houston Texans and the Seattle Seahawks will both be gunning for a victory on Sunday when they meet at CenturyLink Field. The game will be televised by CBS. Kickoff is set for 4:05 pm EST.
Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson has buoyed an offensive unit that appears to gain increasing proficiency with each contest.
The Texans now have a signal caller ranking first in touchdown percentage at 8.6, tied for second in touchdown passes with 15, and sixth in passer rating at 101.1.
Watson led the NFL in scoring strikes going into last week. The Texans had their week off last weekend. Watson used a portion of his downtime to continue improving instead of resting on his considerable laurels.
Oddsmakers opened the Seahawks as -4.5-point favorites versus the Texans, while the game’s total opened at 43. The total has risen to 45. The Seahawks are now 6-point favorites.
Seahawks Offense is Starting to Improve
Seattle won its last outing, a 24-7 win against the New York Giants on October 22. The Seahawks covered in that game as a -3.5-point favorite, while the 31 combined points took the game UNDER the total.
Seattle ranks first in the NFL in points allowed with 94. They are third in net yards per pass attempt at 5.0. The team is fifth in passing yards surrendered at 1,145, and eighth in yards per play at 4.9.
The names remain unchanged. Cornerback Richard Sherman and safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor anchor the secondary.
After a sluggish start to their season the Seahawks are rounding into form. Coming off their off week they claimed their third consecutive victory over the Giants.
Wilson enjoyed his best performance of the season against the Giants. He posted a 121.1 passer rating. Wilson passed for three touchdowns without an interception. He completed 69.2 percent of his passes and had 334-yards in the air. It was his highest yardage total during the winning streak.
Texans Have Hands Full With Seahawks D
In their last action, Houston was a 33-17 winner at home against the Cleveland Browns. They covered the -7.5-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (50) was profitable news for OVER bettors.
Focusing on the finer details is mandatory labor for any starting quarterback. With the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, executing the the small things becomes essential. The Seahawks are stout defensively with their collection of secondary Pro-Bowlers thriving on the back line of the best unit in the league.
Watson continues to develop his familiarity with the offense. He also is strengthening his rapport with his playmakers. DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller have eclipsed helped the Texans get over 30-point plateau four consecutive weeks.
That success makes for a confident group. The Texans’ collective self-esteem will be tested this weekend to extremes unfamiliar to Watson.
Based on what Watson has managed in five weeks as the starter, plenty of people are projecting a similar career path as Wilson. Inserting Watson into the starting lineup as a rookie might ultimately serve Houston as well as it did the Seahawks.
