Bucks Have to Adjust for What Could be Big Injury
Bucks guard Khris Middleton suffered a left thigh contusion on Sunday’s game against the Thunder and will miss from three to four weeks.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, who first reported the injury, explained that Middleton has no serious damage in the leg but will be out around three to four weeks.
Middleton suffered the injury during the 121-119 come-from-behind win against the Thunder on Sunday after Terrance Ferguson’s knee made contact with his thigh in the third quarter. Middleton scored 10 points with five assists and four rebounds in 23 minutes before going down against the Thunder and he is averaging 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 30.8 minutes over 10 games this season, shooting 46.8 percent from the field, 39.3 percent from beyond the arc and 88.6 percent from the free-throw line.
The 2018-19 NBA All-Star suffered a torn left hamstring in September 2016 that forced him to be out until February 2017 but he’s been durable since, he didn’t miss any games in 2017-18 and last season he sat out just five games.
Khris Middleton is the second leading scorer in the Bucks behind reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and without Middleton the Bucks will have to rely on Giannis even more but he can’t do it all by himself and Wesley Matthews, George Hill and Kyle Korver will have to step up their games significantly and Sterling Brown and Pat Connaughton will probably receive more playing time. Brown could join Antetokounmpo, Eric Bledsoe, Wesley Matthews and Brook Lopez in the starting lineup.
Playing it safe with Middleton’s injury is the right thing to do for the Bucks. He has to come back until he is fully healthy. His absence will hurt the offense and he also was a versatile defense, so replacing his production will be hard.
