Two Best Team in the NL East Clash at SunTrust Park
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves will meet on Tuesday at SunTrust Park. The Phillies endured a rough June. The preseason NL East favorites went 11-16 and tumbled out of first place in the division. They are optimistic after winning five of their past seven games entering Tuesday’s road series opener at the division-leading Braves.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Aaron Nola (6-2, 4.22 ERA) vs. Braves LH Dallas Keuchel (1-1, 5.06)
Philadelphia pitching struggled throughout the month. The squad posted a 5.63 ERA that ranked 28th in MLB. The relief corps was worse and had a 6.62 ERA. Opponents slashed the human gas-cans to a .317/.389/.579 stat line. Philadelphia outscored the Braves 23-11 in sweeping the season-opening series in March. Atlanta scored 29 runs in winning two of three at home against the Phillies on June 14-16.
Nick Pivetta was initially ahead of Nola in the Phillies‘ pitching schedule. Skipper Gabe Kapler will take advantage of Monday’s off day and reorder the rotation before the All-Star break. Nola now is set to take the hill on his normal four days’ rest rather than five. In his last outing Nola allowed one hit, one walk and struck out 10 across seven shutout innings against the Mets. He did not factor into the decision. Nola was in complete control as only two Mets reached scoring position. One of which made it on an error. He managed double-digit strikeouts for his second consecutive start. This effort was headlined by 20 called strikes. His ERA spiked to 4.89 after his June 15 start. He has settled down and has allowed only one earned run across 15 innings in two outings. He has whiffed 20 while handing out only two free passes. C J.T. Realmuto, named to the NL All-Star team Sunday, was removed from the series finale at Miami in the sixth inning for precautionary reasons after tweaking his left hamstring.
Keuchel picked up his first victory in his second start with Atlanta on June 26 at Chicago. He allowed three runs on eight hits, while walking three. He had two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. of the 5-3 win. Keuchel signed with the Braves on June 7 and pitched in two minor-league tune-up starts. He then gave up four runs (three earned) in his Atlanta debut on June 21 at Washington. He last that game 4-3. Keuchel is 1-0 with a 0.73 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies. He has not faced Philadelphia since 2014. Atlanta placed RHP Anthony Swarzak (right shoulder inflammation) on the injured list before Sunday’s game. It was a big blow considering he has a 0.52 ERA in 17 appearances since being acquired from Seattle.
The Dart Throw: Braves 5, Phillies 3
