MLB Odds: Mets Building NL East Lead at Washington’s Expense
The New York Mets can put even more distance between themselves and the Washington Nationals when they play the finale of a three-game series this Wednesday (7:00 PM ET) in DC. The Mets won Monday’s opener 8-5 to cash in as +190 road dogs and open up a five-game lead in the NL East.

These are two of baseball’s best pitching staffs, and it should be another excellent matchup Wednesday night between New York’s Jacob deGrom (2.87 FIP) and Washington’s Stephen Strasburg (3.35 FIP). However, the Nats have failed to generate any profit with Strasburg on the hill, dropping 0.49 units on a record of 10-8. The Mets, on the other hand, are 17-9 behind deGrom for 5.46 units in earnings.
Washington’s chances of catching up to the Mets took a hit two weeks ago when outfielder Denard Span (.796 OPS) was shut down for the year with an inflamed hip labrum. Meanwhile, New York has welcomed both third baseman David Wright (.773 OPS) and catcher Travis d’Arnaud (.913 OPS) back to the lineup since the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The Mets are 9-5 since Wright’s first game back, while the Nats are also 9-5 over the same span.
