BetAnySports’ MLB Pick of the Week
Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels- Tuesday, June 23
The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels continue this week’s AL West Division clash with Game 2 of a three-game set at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. BetAnySports has listed the Astros as +112 road underdogs for Tuesday’s contest with the MLB money line odds on Los Angeles set at -122. The total for this game has been set at 7.
The surprising Astros continue to lead the way in the AL West with an overall record of 41-30 and they have stayed fairly hot with a 7-3 record in their last 10 games. Heading into Monday’s series opener, they will look to bounce-back from a 2-1 series loss against Seattle this past weekend on the road. Houston is 18-16 on the road this season, but just 3-9 in their last 12 games away from home. The total has gone OVER in nine of its last 10 games.
Collin McHugh is expected to be on the mound this Tuesday night as the Astros’ starter. The right-hander allowed three earned runs on four hits in six full innings against Colorado his last time out. On the year, he is 7-3 through 14 starts but his ERA stands at 5.04 with a 1.34 WHIP. In a previous start this season against the Angels in early May, he went 7 1/3 innings while allowing just two earned runs on five hits.
Los Angeles was on the wrong end of a 2-1 series loss to Oakland on the road over the weekend to fall back to an even 35-35 on the year. The Angels are above .500 at home this season at 19-15 and they have gone 8-4 in their last 12 home games. They are 5.5 games in back of Houston in the AL West standings at the 70-game mark of the year. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games.
The Angels will go with CJ Wilson as their starter for Tuesday night. The left-hander has been in solid form over his last two outings. After shutting out Oakland on two hits in seven innings pitched, he held Arizona to just one earned run on eight hits in eight innings of work last Thursday. He picked-up the win in both games to even his mark on the year at 5-5. Wilson comes in with a 3.39 ERA and a WHIP of 1.12 through 14 starts this year.
I have to go with Los Angeles in this one. Wilson gets the clear edge on the mound given his last two starts and I think that the Angels’ bats will be able to get to McHugh this time around to help secure the win for the home-town team.
