Eskimos and Alouettes Both Looking for Win #2

The Montreal Alouettes and the Edmonton Eskimos will both be trying to pick up win #2 tonight when they battle at Commonwealth Stadium. Both teams had thrilling wins in their opening week wins. They also took a toll on their teams with some banged up players.

Oddsmakers have the Eskimos as 9-point favorites and the total is at 53.5.

Edmonton won its last outing, a 30-27 victory against the B.C. Lions on June 24. The Eskimos covered in that game as a +4-point underdog, while the 57 combined points took the game UNDER the total. Kicker Sean Whyte split the uprights with zeros on the clock to lift the Edmonton Eskimos to the victory in Week 1. The Lions erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. They tied the game up at 27 apiece with only 40 seconds left. QB Mike Reilly refused to crack under pressure. He found Brandon Zylstra on his first throw of the drive for a 76-yard gain to set up the game-winning field goal.

Alouettes are Banged up in Secondary

The Alouettes were a 17-16 winner in their most recent outing at home against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. They failed to cover the -7-point spread as favorites, while the total score (33) made winners of UNDER bettors. Darian Durant made a statement against the team that let him go in the off-season. He threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns. Wide Receiver B.J. Cunningham had a game-high 90 yards on four catches and one touchdown.

Defensive back Jonathon Mincy was named the third Shaw Top Performer for Week 1. He knocked down two passes and also intercepted another. He did this while shutting down dangerous Roughriders receiver Duron Carter. Defensive back Greg Henderson is out indefinitely with what’s been reported as a broken bone in his hand. Travis Hawkins sustained an arm injury early in the second half as well.
