Boston College is Looking for Payback
The Florida State Seminoles and the Boston College Eagles will meet on Friday in a key ACC matchup at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:00 pm EST. ESPN will televise the game nationally.
In 2016, Florida State’s defense totally dominated Boston College. The Eagles were held scoreless until the last four minutes of a 45-7 Seminoles win. It was clear from the start of that Friday night contest that the for BC to move the ball was going to prevent any chance of an upset.
We’re back on a Friday night for Florida State and Boston College. This time the game is in Chestnut Hill and the tables have turned. The Eagles have an offense that’s surging while Florida State is struggling to put points on the board.
Oddsmakers have the Seminoles as 6.5-point favorites over the Eagles. The total is at 46.5.
Florida State and Boston College have experienced youth movements on offense this season. Freshmen will once again play major roles for each squad Friday night.
Quarterback James Blackman and running back Cam Akers have had to become starters for the Seminoles due to injuries. The Eagles have had to turn to quarterback Anthony Brown during the preseason by winning the job outright. AJ Dillon has taken over as the lead running back the past two weeks.
Boston College Offense is Surging
Last time out for Boston College, they were a 41-10 winner as they battled the Virginia Cavaliers on the road. Boston College covered in the match as a +6.5-point underdog, while 51 combined points moved the game OVER for totals bettors.
The Eagles have totaled more than 500 yards of offense in wins against Louisville and Virginia the last two weeks. Brown has shown dramatic improvement running the offense. He is falling into rhythm with his receivers and it shows.
The biggest breakout star has been the true freshman Dillon. He rushed for 272 yards against Louisville. He jumped up in the national rankings for rushing yards among freshmen. Dillon is now at No. 4 trailing Jonathan Taylor of Wisconsin, JK Dobbins of Ohio State, and Spencer Brown of UAB with 694 yards.
It took a few games for Dillon and the offense to get rolling. The Eagles have a realistic shot at making a bowl game with a 4-4 record heading into Friday night’s contest.
Florida State Looking for Answers
Florida State was a 31-28 loser in its last match at home against the Louisville Cardinals. They failed to cover the -6-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 59 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.
Every week from here on out isn’t just Florida State playing for pride. The Noles’ are playing to guarantee the continuation of the program’s NCAA-best streak of 35 consecutive bowl games. It’s hard to imagine a team that started the season in the top five would need a rally to make the postseason.
FSU is 2-4 with only five games remaining after losing out on playing ULM because of Hurricane Irma. They basically have to win out.
The offense has been woeful. As true freshman quarterback James Blackman has improved his play, the wide receivers have been banged up. Florida State moves the ball with some success at times. Finishing drives with touchdowns,or even successful field goals, has been a struggle.
For Florida State to avoid dropping to 2-5 with Clemson and Florida left on the schedule, they’ve got to do a better job of getting seven when they get into scoring position.
