Oklahoma State Knows This is Huge Big 12 Opener
The 16th ranked TCU Horned Frogs and the 6th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys open their 2017 Big 12 schedule on Saturday. They battle at Boone Pickens Stadium, and the game is televised nationally on ESPN. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm EST.
Oklahoma State has breezed through to its’ 3-0 ranking with little resistance. They have outscored their opponents 162-52. The same can’t be said for the 3-0 Horned Frogs. They have had to battle a tough Arkansas team and rally past SMU last week. We will find out today if Oklahoma State can handle a tough situation.
Oddsmakers opened Oklahoma State as 12.5-point favorites. The line has fallen to the Cowboys being favored by 10.5 at the moment. The total is now 70 after opening up at 68.5.
Will Oklahoma State Offense Get a Test Today
Oklahoma State was a 59-21 winner in its last match on the road against Pitt Panthers. They covered the -11-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 80 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.
Quarterback Mason Rudolph hasn’t played in a fourth quarter this season. The QB still ranks fourth nationally in passing yards per game at 397.3. He is also second in touchdown passes with 11. Oklahoma State ranks third nationally in total offense. The team is averaging 607 yards per game. They are fourth in scoring with a 54.0 average.
In last week’s 59-21 rout at Pitt, the Cowboys had four receivers topped the 100-yard mark.
Can TCU Keep Up or Slow Down the Fast Paced Cowboys
TCU was a 56-36 winner in their most recent outing at home against the SMU Mustangs. They failed to cover the -22.5-point spread as favorites, while the total score (92) made winners of OVER bettors.
Quarterback Kenny Hill has played very well in TCU’s fast start to 2017. He may need to do even more to upstage Rudolph. Hill’s career has been a roller-coaster. He tossed a Big 12-worst 13 interceptions a year ago. But he did havewith 17 touchdowns as the Frogs finished a disappointing 6-7. He was picked off twice in last years 31-6 loss to the Cowboys.
Hill is completing 75 percent of his passes through the first 3 games this season. He has eight touchdowns and only two interceptions. He is protecting the ball better.
Wide receiver KaVontae Turpin, who was hampered by injuries a year ago, is looking more like the explosive player he was in 2015. The Frogs’ other receivers are producing as well also. Steady running back Kyle Hicks continues to eat up yards and score touchdowns behind an improved offensive line.
TCU has never won a Big 12 game in the state of Oklahoma.
