MLB Odds: A’s, O’s Clash With Crucial Wild Card Implications

Betting On Oakland Athletics Baseball

Although they’ve emerged as an outright AL East champion candidate of late, the Baltimore Orioles haven’t ruled out the fact that their key to climbing the World Series futures may still be through one of the two available American League wild card berths. This weekend they’ll square off the biggest threat to that fall back plan, the Oakland Athletics.

Early postseason MLB odds give the Orioles 20/1 odds of winning the World Series, one of the lowest such marks among teams still mathematically eligible to qualify for the playoffs. The A’s, who’ve dominated Major League Baseball for much of the second half of the season, sit slightly higher on the list with 16/1 odds.

It’s well within reason that both qualify for one of the two league wild card berths, but such a scenario leaves little room for error for either club as September drags on. With the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels chomping at the bit to sneak into the wild card conversation, neither Baltimore nor Oakland can afford to suffer significant losses in the three-game weekend set. Unfortunately for A’s and O’s fans, one might have to.
