The stage is set for a fresh chapter in NBA history. The 2025 NBA Finals tip off on Thursday, June 5. The finals feature a thrilling showdown between two franchises hungry for their first title under current banners. These teams are the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers.
The Thunder had a dominant 68-win regular season. They secured home-court advantage and stormed through the Western Conference. This was achieved behind the brilliance of MVP contender Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. It’s their first Finals appearance since 2012. It’s also the first time Oklahoma City has had a shot at the title since moving from Seattle. The franchise last lifted the trophy as the SuperSonics in 1979.
On the other side, the Pacers are back in the NBA Finals for the first time in 25 years. Tyrese Haliburton has powered Indiana’s resurgence. He led them past the New York Knicks in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Pacers, who have three ABA titles from the 1970s, are still chasing their first NBA championship.
The 2025 Finals will follow a 2-2-1-1-1 format. It will begin with two games in Oklahoma City. Then, the series will shift to Indiana. With both cities in the Midwest, travel won’t be a major factor — but every possession will be.
