Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees- Tuesday, July 21
The Baltimore Orioles will look to make-up some ground in a very tight AL East Division race this Tuesday night in Game 1 of a three-game showdown against the New York Yankees this week. BetAnySports has listed the Orioles as +108 road underdogs in this series opener. The Yankees are -118 favorites at home and the betting odds for the total have been set at eight.
It has been a bumpy ride for Baltimore lately, but after closing-out the first half of the season with just two wins in 10 games, it was able to go on the road this past weekend and take two of three from Detroit. The Orioles outscored the Tigers 12-3 in the final two games as underdogs on BetAnySports’ closing money line and the total went OVER in two of the three games.
Baltimore is now one game above .500 at 46-45, but it has really struggled to win on the road this season with a record of 19-27. This is basically a middle-of-the-road team in the American League with an average of 4.4 runs and a 3.73 ERA that are both ranked sixth overall. The Orioles will turn to Wei-Yin Chen as their starter on Tuesday night. The left-hander is just 4-5 this season in 17 previous starts, but his ERA stands at 2.78 and he has a 1.09 WHIP.
New York posted its fourth-straight series win this past weekend by taking two of three from Seattle at home. It is now 8-4 in its last 12 games with the total staying UNDER in eight of those contests. This maintained the Yankees’ four-game lead over Baltimore in the AL East and they are now 50-41 with a 27-17 record at home.
There could be some cause for concern with just nine total runs in its last three games, but New York is still one of the most potent scoring teams in the AL with an average of 4.6 runs a game. There has to be some genuine concern with a pitching staff that is ranked 11th in the AL with a team ERA of 3.91. Look for Nathan Eovaldi to get the start for the Yankees on Tuesday night. The right-hander is 9-2 this season behind some excellent run support given his 4.50 ERA and a WHIP of 1.52.
I am going with New York in this series opener simply because I cannot see its bats remaining as quiet as they were this past weekend. The Yankees have already won three of four at home this season against their bitter division foes so bank on them notching their fourth win in five tries this Tuesday night.
