White Sox Baseball Stroman Looks to Build on Recent Success Against White Sox The Toronto Blue Jays will be on the road this weekend when they visit the Chicago White Sox for a three-game series. Both teams are essentially out of the playoff chase. Players may be auditioning for other teams. TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago-Plus, Sportsnet, TVAS (Toronto) PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Marcus Stroman (3-7, 5.42 ERA) vs. White Sox RH Reynaldo López (4-8, 4.13) ODDS: Blue Jays are listed as -127-moneyline favorites. The Total is 9u -115. Sitting nine games under .500, Toronto traded 10-game winner J.A. Happ to the New York Yankees. They also shipped right-hander reliever Seunghwan Oh to Colorado. More may be on the way. The White Sox traded closer Joakim Soria to Milwaukee for two pitching prospects.

Blue Jays fans will have something to cheer about. Starter Marcus Stroman appears to be rounding into form and will be on the mound for the opener. There’s no question that this season has been a challenging one for Stroman. He started the year slowly and spent time on the disabled list with shoulder fatigue early on. When Jays fans saw that old swagger return to Stroman’s game in his last start they were thrilled. He owns a 1-3 record and 6.00 ERA in six career starts against the White Sox. Optimists finally had something to cheer about. The righty went seven innings and surrendered only one run in his second quality start in three games. He’ll look to build on that momentum against the lowly White Sox. One bright part of the Blue Jays’ future is second baseman Lourdes Gurriel Jr.. He is the first rookie in history with eight straight multiple-hit games. Gurriel is 17-for-35 during the torrid eight-game stretch.

White Sox Send One of Few Bright Spots to Mound

Chicago will send Reynaldo Lopez to the mound to face Toronto on Friday. The 24-year-old has been a bright spot in an otherwise abysmal season for Chicago. He’s second on the team in innings pitched to compliment staff ace James Shields. Pitching for a team that has scored the fifth fewest runs in the Majors isn’t going to result in many wins. Chicago will attempt to take advantage of home field and add a win to their record with Lopez at the helm. Lopez has made one career start against the Blue Jays, allowing one run over six innings in his 2018 season debut. Jose Abreu has hit safely in five straight games. He went deep twice Thursday and finished 7-for-16 with three homers and six RBIs against Los Angeles Angels. They split the four game set. Abreu is 5-for-16 with a homer off Stroman. %Alt_Txt%%
