UFC Betting – GSP Versus Diaz Not The Fight Fans Want Next
UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre is not ready for a proposed super fight against UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva. In fact, the GSP’s next bout has already been scheduled, and the UFC is hoping that the third time is the charm for a tilt that has been more than a year in the making. St. Pierre will defend his title against No. 1 contender Nick Diaz on March 16, a fight that will headline a UFC 158 event, which will be held in GSP’s hometown of Montreal, Quebec at the Bell Centre, where the top-ranked welterweight in the world made his comeback this past November. These two have been scheduled to clash twice already in the past, both in October of 2011 and this past February, but each time the sports betting fight was cancelled with St. Pierre’s knee injury an obvious reason for it. St. Pierre completed his comeback after tearing his ACL with a big win over Carlos Condit, and while he still has obvious work to do, there is no denying that this isn’t the bout that fans want.
While it may not be the super fight with Silva that MMA fans have been begging for, St. Pierre made it clear that he thinks this will be the fight that most fans want to see as an alternative, even if it isn’t true. GSP has told fans that he will need to work his way back to the level he was at before going down before he is ready to challenge Silva, and that will mean shaking off the rust that built up over the months after he suffered the injury. While St. Pierre escaped his return against Condit with a win, there were a couple of moments where it looked as though the challenger would score the upset, and St. Pierre acknowledged afterwards that it was a good online sportsbook lesson for what it means to have to shake the rust off. While this was a fight that many people wanted to see prior to the injury to GSP, that isn’t necessarily true now.
Consider that online betting fans have waited more than a year to see one of the greatest champions in UFC history return to competition, and how long this proposed super fight has been on the table. Then consider that Diaz hasn’t fought since losing to the fighter that St. Pierre just beat in Condit following a one-year suspension for testing positive for marijuana metabolites, and it’s clear that this bout has lost some of its intrigue. Many thought that Johny Hendricks would be eligible following a five-fight win streak, but for now he is the odd man out with a proposed bout against Jake Ellenberger on the UFC 158 undercard. Condit will face Rory MacDonald in his next fight, and for as long as he has been out it isn’t as though there are any real must-see fights in the division at this point. With the date for Montreal still months away St. Pierre will have lots of time to prepare, and while fans will be satisfied with seeing what he can do with even more work, it will be the tilt that follows this next GSP tilt that online sports betting fans will be waiting to find out about.
