Warriors Stunned by Raptors in Game One of NBA Finals
The Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors will meet in Game Two of The Finals at Scotiabank Arena. Pascal Siakam turned into the Cameroon Assassin in Game One and led the Raptors to one of the biggest wins in Franchise history. Many fans think Game One was a fluke, but I don’t think you will find any Warriors players, or true fans, that believe that is the case. Golden State has some solace. As bad as they played, and shot, at times during the game they still had a chance to win the game until the last 3 minutes.
TV: 8 p.m. ET, ABC LINE: Raptors -2.5; O/U: 213.
Toronto shot 50.6 percent from the floor in the opener. They got strong performances from the aforementioned Siakam, Kawhi Leonard and Marc Gasol in the 118-109 Game One victory. The Warriors are still missing superstar Kevin Durant with his calf injury. Now swingman Andre Iguodala is banged up with a calf problem.
Golden State was 6-0 without Durant, including the game in which he was injured against Houston, before falling in Game One. They are not going to rush him back before he’s ready. Stephen Curry led the way with 34 points and Klay Thompson added 21 points. Draymond Green recorded a triple-double, but no other Warriors player reached double figures. That has to change. Green also has to step up his defense on Siakam as well. The Warriors expect more from Cousins tonight as well. Cousins, who had been out with a quad injury, played for the first time since the first round. He managed three points in eight minutes off the bench. Kevon Looney is shooting 73 percent from the floor in the postseason.
Durant’s absence was felt on the defensive end as well against the Raptors. Siakam was going off for a postseason career-high 32 points. He was 14-of-17 shooting. He was hitting everything. Head Coach Nick Nurse said “I’ve never seen anything like that before. That’s a pretty big stage for a guy to put that kind of performance on. That motor he’s been given; he’s using that to the best of his ability. He soaks up things. He takes it to the court. He works, works, works. He takes care of himself. He’s really got a burning desire to be a very, very good player in this league. I give him all the credit for that for using those abilities to the best that he can.” Kawhi Leonard had 23 points and Marc Gasol pitched in 20. That completed a dominant effort for the Toronto front-court. Kyle Lowry was held to seven points on 2-of-9 shooting in Game 1.
