Texas Tech and TCU High Powered Offenses Collide
The 10th-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders and the TCU Horned Frogs meet on Saturday at Schollmaier Arena. Tip-off is set for 2 pm EST and ESPNU will have the Telecast.
Oddsmakers opened the Horned Frogs as -3.5-point favorites versus the Red Raiders, while the game’s total opened at 146. The line has held steady.
TCU and Texas Tech have two of the best offenses in the Big 12 Conference, and two of the best in the nation. Defense may be the part of the game that decides things Saturday afternoon. Something has to give with these two teams and it may be who creates the most turnovers and has the most stops.
TCU Heads Home With Balanced Offensive Attack
In their last action, TCU was a 79-66 winner on the road against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. They covered the -1-point spread as favorites.
TCU heads home after beating Oklahoma State behind a balanced attack led by Alex Robinson’s and Kenrich Williams’ 13 points each.
Desmond Bane and Kouat Noi chipped in 12 points each. Vladmir Brodziansky scored 10 points for the Horned Frogs. TCU out-shot Oklahoma State 55.6 percent-41.8 percent while controlling the boards with a 37-26 rebounding advantage.
It’s only the second time that the Horned Frogs have won in Stillwater. The first since 1925. TCU has beaten Oklahoma State only three times since joining the Big 12 in 2013.
TCU’s defensive intensity and execution was crucial in the win. It played big in a game that was dead-even statistically after the first half.
The Horned Frogs’ offense, with their balanced attack, is good enough to make them one of the best teams in the loaded Big 12. They hope to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
Texas Tech Keeps Surviving Close Calls
Last time out for Texas Tech, they were a 73-71 winner in overtime as they battled the Texas Longhorns at home. They failed to cover in the match as a -8-point favorite.
The Red Raiders got a career-high 38 points from Keenan Evans. He hit the game-winning step-back jumper with one second remaining on the clock.
Evans was the only Red Raider who scored in double figures. He had double the points of Texas Tech’s four other starters combined. Norense Odiase snatched 11 rebounds.
Evans is the first Texas Tech player to notch back-to-back 30-point games since Andre Emmett. He accomplished the feat on Dec. 18 and Dec. 21, 2002.
Evans scored 21 of his points during the second half and overtime. The 38 points were the most by a Texas Tech player since Mike Singletary. He tallied 43 points against Texas A&M on March 11, 2009 in the Big 12 Championship game.
It was the third in row for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders improved their winning streak in designated home games to 14-0 this season.
