Longhorns and Cyclones Look Make Postseason Noise
The Iowa State Cyclones and the Texas Longhorns battle today in a Big 12 conference game that means a lot to both teams. With the 2019 college football season getting closer and closer to its conclusion, where we will finally find out which four teams make it into the College Football Playoff.
Everyone is building the hype into Rivalry Week, but there are still a few weeks left before we get to that point of the regular season.
TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1. LINE: Iowa State – 7; O/U: 65
Top teams have been dropping games left and right, really leaving the door open for any potential one-loss teams to make it into the Playoff if they win out their remaining schedule.
Our feature today won’t be about any teams fighting for the final four positions in the College Football Playoff, but these two teams have been near the top of the Big 12 Conference all season long, and they can look to spoil another team’s season.
The No. 19 Texas Longhorns have crept back into the national rankings, and they will be on the road this Saturday to go against the Iowa State Cyclones. After three losses, Texas has lost its chance to make any noise in the postseason, but it has the ability to make it to a high-ranked bowl game.

Focus Under Center
This matchup will be all about the quarterbacks for both teams. Brock Purdy of Iowa State and Sam Ehlinger of Texas both have the ability to attack defenses with their passing and their rushing.
Both of these quarterbacks have multiple rushing touchdowns on the season and a healthy amount of carries.
Texas also has the big-time receiver on the outside with Devin Duvernay. Duvernay has been able to match up well against any secondary and becomes an absolute nightmare for any defense to cover. He has over 900 yards receiving and seven touchdown catches on the season. He has been able to overpower any defender going against him and can be a man among boys at times.
For Iowa State, it really is all about Purdy. The team makes or breaks on his shoulders, and without Purdy, the Cyclones have not been able to muster up much offense. Their rushing attack is headed by Breece Hall, but he only has around 600 yards rushing on the year through nine games.
One other important note about the Cyclones as a team is that they are coming off of a two-game losing streak, dropping their last two to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
The Cyclones have also lost both of their games against ranked opponents in 2019. Texas is sitting at 1-2 on the season against ranked opponents, but both of their ranked losses have been by one score or less, so they are much more battle-tested as a squad.
This, That and a College Football Dart Throw
Our spreads for this article are coming to you from our good friends at VietBet. VietBet has Iowa State favored in this contest at home at -7. Grabbing a full touchdown against a ranked opponent shows you how much this Cyclones team demands respect.
Neither of these teams this season have been incredibly reliable against the spread, as both sit at about .500. Texas has superior athletes in this game, but Iowa State might be the better overall team.
Depending on what team gets off the bus for Texas on Saturday, we may see two dramatically different outcomes for this contest.
The Longhorns just pulled off a tough and gritty win at home against a ranked Kansas State team, and I don’t think they are ready to roll over just yet this season.
The boys down in Austin should be able to rally around head coach Tom Herman and keep their team in contention for a good bowl game by the end of the year.
