Sunday Night Football Has Quality Matchup on, Finally!!
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans will square off on Sunday Night Football. The game will be played at NRG Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:30 pm EST. NBC will broadcast the game to the entire nation on free TV.
The Texans offense has showed an ability to score with Rookie Quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson claimed AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. This was following his five-touchdown performance in a 57-14 victory.
The Texans offense has struggled since Bill O’Brien has been the coach, but that long drought may be worth it with Watson at the helm.
Oddsmakers opened the Chiefs as -3.5-point favorites versus the Texans, while the game’s total opened at 47. The line now shows the Chiefs as a 2-point favorite. The total is down to 45.
Texans Look to Continue Improving Offense on Sunday Night Football
Last time out for Houston, they were a 57-14 winner as they battled the Tennessee Titans at home. The Texans covered in the match as a +2.5-point underdog, while 71 combined points moved the game OVER for totals bettors.
The Texans’ 445-yard output against the Titans showcased the methodical precision in which they controlled the line of scrimmage. This effectively let them control the time of possession. That served as a huge aid to a defense that has performed unevenly so far this year.
The Texans were destroyed on the ground by Jacksonville in their opener. They were left vulnerable through the air by the Patriots two weeks later. Sandwiched around those losses were strong defensive performances against the Bengals and Titans. The Texans possessed the ball 19 seconds shy of 40 minutes in those games. Tennessee managed 41 offensive plays. That is a number that allowed for the Texans to remain fresh defensively throughout the blowout.
Chiefs High Powered Offense Will be Showcased on Sunday Night Football
Kansas City was a 29-20 winner in its last match at home against the Washington Redskins. They covered the -6.5-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 49 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.
The Chiefs are pacing the NFL in point differential at plus-45. They rank third in points scored at 30.5 per game. They are tied for 10th in points allowed at 19.3. The Chiefs pummeled the Patriots to open the season. They pulled a win out of the fire in a tense back-and-forth with the Redskins on Monday.
The Chiefs have been middle of the road defensively. They rank 22nd in yards per play at 5.5. Much of the credit for their fast start has rested at the feet of surprising rookie running back Kareem Hunt and veteran quarterback Alex Smith. Smith is playing the best football of his 12-year career.
Smith was faced with having to fend off rookie Patrick Mahomes for his starting job. Mahomes was selected 10th overall out of Texas Tech. Smith has responded by posting career highs in completing percentage with 76%. His touchdown percentage is at 6.6. His interceptions percentage is 0.0. Smith has a passer rating of 124.2. Smith leads the NFL in all four categories. The veteran QB also has three game-winning drives.
