Cubs Lead Series 2-1, Send Arrieta to Mound on Tuesday
The Washington Nationals and the Chicago Cubs play Game 4 of their NLDS Series on Tuesday when they battle at Wrigley Field. The game is set to start at 5:30. TBS will have the game televised nationally.
Oddsmakers opened the Cubs as -145-moneyline favorites versus the Nationals, while the game’s total opened at 7.5. The total is still at 7.5, but the Cubs have been bet up to a -165-moneyline favorite.
The Cubs will go with Jake Arrieta. Right hander Arrieta has a 3.53 ERA to go along with a 14-10 record this season.
Arrieta, who was slowed by a right hamstring injury late in the season, insists he is fine. He recently threw two successful bullpen sessions.
Arrieta dropped his only decision against the Nationals this year and is 1-2 with a 5.48 ERA in nine career starts against Washington.
Arrieta will make his first start of the postseason. He used a few extra days to strengthen his hamstring. Arrieta hasn’t pitched since Sept. 26. He missed 2 1/2 weeks after straining the hamstring during a start on Sept. 4.
Nationals Pin Hopes on Roark Against Cubs
The Nationals will pin their hopes on the pitching of right hander Tanner Roark in this game. Roark has a 13-11 record and a 4.67 ERA this season.
Roark is 4-2 in seven career starts against the Cubs. He is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA against Chicago this season.
The Nationals will have to produce more if they hope to extend their season. They have scored seven runs in three games. Washington’s only run Monday was set up two Chicago errors.
