NHL Odds: Wings Ahead of Avs in Standings, Behind in Bankroll
The Detroit Red Wings may be near the top of the NHL standings at 29-12-2-7, but they’re having a hard time beating the puck line at 24-26 ATS (minus-3.68 units). Compare and contrast to Detroit’s former Western Conference rivals, the Colorado Avalanche. Although they’re outside of the playoff picture right now at 21-18-7-4, the Avs are making money hand-over-fist at 31-19 ATS (plus-9.19 units). Conveniently enough, these two teams clash Thursday night in Denver at 9:00 PM ET on NBCSN.

Detroit is doing quite well at both ends of the ice, ranking seventh overall in both goals for (2.94) and against (2.44) per game. However, the Wings haven’t covered enough at –1.5. Colorado, on the other hand, is 23rd in goals for (2.50) and 20th in goals against (2.74), and getting paid handsomely at +1.5.
The timing might be right for the Avalanche to put one over on Detroit, too. The Wings are without starting goalie Jimmy Howard (.920 save percentage) because of a groin injury, leaving Petr Mrazek (.907 save percentage) to do the heavy lifting. Mrazek is 7-2 since taking over between the pipes, but four of those wins were by a single goal.
